Nail of the Day #3

It's been forever since I have done a Nail of the Day, nearly a year I think! I used to be into nail art so much but I just gave up on it for the last few months and now I'm back on it again. I recently ordered some acrylic nail paint and nail art brushes from Ebay which I have been experimenting with.

I wanted to make a nail art tutorial but honestly I didn't know myself what I was doing when I doing it. It was a spontaneous idea but next time I will plan before hand and hopefully post some tutorials. Let me know if you would like to see some nail art tutorials or not.

I applied my Barry M's 3 in 1 clear nail polish as a base coat. Then used some blue paint to cover my nail tips because they have been looking awful lately. On my thumb, I wanted to try a flower art because it was the biggest nail so I had the most surface area. My index and middle fingers are supposed to be branches with flowers...if you have guessed already. After that I honestly didn't know what to do, I attempted to make it look like the flowers have been blown away on to the sea. The nails looked a bit empty so I added some birds...yes they're supposed to be bird, even though they don't look like it.

Practice makes perfect so hopefully I get better with time.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Comfort Clear* Review

Lip balms for me are a must have. It's that one thing you can be sure I always have in my bag. You never know when your lips may feel dry and chapped. Now I think there are 3 different categories of lip balms . For example, those really cheap lip balm that we buy only because they smell or look nice but give zero moisture. Then there are those lip balms that are hydrating when you apply it but doesn't really do much for your lips. The third category is the lip balms that actually moisturise your lips.

Today, I have one of current favourite lip balms which is the Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm* in Comfort Clear. This easily falls in to the third category. This is a clear lip balm and it applies really smooth on the lips. I have been using this for the last few weeks and I didn't really realise how much I liked it until I lost this for a couple of days and had to use my other lip balms. There is a very obvious difference between this and lets say Maybelline's Baby Lips in Hydrate. I felt like with that I had to reapply it every other hour or so. Whereas this one I'm good for about 4-6 hours. (though I sometimes apply it more often because I like the smell of it ^^ ) The smell is a sweet smell which isn't too strong or sickly. Another thing I have noticed is that I don't have to smother my lips with lip balm with this; going over the lips once or twice is enough. Packaging wise, it's simple, cute and most importantly the lid stays on even if you chuck it in your bag. When you first get it the lip balm is flat and after using it a couple of times the edges become rounded like in the picture above.

As the weather starts to cool, dry skin kicks in and I think this would be perfect for this winter. I have been using this for nearly 3 weeks and I have used about one fifth of the product. So one of this will definitely last you a winter. This is also available in different colours too, if you prefer some colour out of your lip balm.

You can buy this and check out the other colours here!(I have my eye on coral crush)

What's your favourite lip balm? What colour would you like to buy of these lip balms?

ELF Cosmetics Haul

So I recently placed my first order at ELF. They had a 50% off so I thought now is the perfect time to order. One bit of warning, once you start browsing through the website somehow magically your basket will be over £60. There is so much and at such low prices (even better with 50% off) that it's hard not to basically add anything and everything! I (somehow miraculously) managed to part with only £18.80. I got 10 items which came up to under £40 and then with the 50% off it came down to under £20. Which means that each product cost an average of £1.88! That's pretty good!

I tried to stay away from the blushers and lipsticks because I know that might get out of hand. The main thing that I wanted to try out was lip liners and a couple of the matte lip colours. Most of the lip liners were out of stock so I quicked added the ones available. I was very intrigued by the HD Powder in Yellow shade so I thought I might give that a try. I've recently been really into brows so I got the brow kit too. Which I must say I love the packaging of! I also tried to keep away from buying any brushes buy I ended up getting the Studio Small Stipple Brush because my friend recommended it. Lastly, I really wanted to try out the cream eyeliners because they had such great colours. I had like 5 in my basket but just ended up getting the shade copper which is a nice ....coppery shade :) So far I'm quite impressed with the cream eyeliner, it's really creamy and soft and still quite long lasting.  Keep an eye out for my reviews on some of these product coming soon!

Did you buy anything from Elf during their sale recently?

Nars Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Subra* Review

I was sent recently a couple of goodies by the lovely Eve from The Hut Group to try out. One of them was this Nars Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow*. When I first opened this I was very intrigued because this isn't like the normal Nars single eyeshadows. After quick search on the internet, I realised these are fairly new. The dual-intensity range of eyeshadows were released just last month

First of I love the packaging! It's so small and cute. It has a magnetic closure and feels very sturdy. This is great to take with you in your make up bag as it hardly takes any space.

Colour wise it's quite hard to describe exactly what colour this is because it's different in different conditions. As you can see from the swatches that when applied wet/damp the colour is more intense. The colour also varies under different lighting. In the pan it looks dark purple. In natural light, when applied, it looks dark plumy colour with a hint of brown. However, under lights and flash it looks dark brown.

To test this I did the eye look above and I was very pleased with how it looked considering I only used two colours. This colour is great for smudging the lower lash line and for blending into the crease.  I was quite excited to know that this can be used dry and wet so to try it wet I damped my Real Technique's accent brush and used it to pick up the product. The application was really smooth and I didn't have to go over it many times as it was very pigmented. Not gonna lie but this is better than some gel eyeliners I use. It lasted 9 hours and it looked exactly like how it did in the morning!

These cost £21 a pop eeeh! Pretty pricey, I know considering a normal Nars single eyeshadow cost £18 and you get 2.2 grams of product where as this you only get 1.5grams. BUT...I think the price is justifiable due to it's very unique colour and the fact it can be used dry and wet. You get more use out of the shadow for your money.

These are going to be available in 12 different colours on the 15th (this Friday). In the meantime, why not check out the rest of the Nars range here! Make sure you're following me on Twitter so I can give you a heads up when they are available :)
UPDATE: You can now buy them here!

What colour would you want to get in this eyeshadow?

Essence Haul - 3 for 2

So yesterday, I popped into good old Wilkos to try some new Essence cosmetics. Luckily they had a 3 for 2 so I naturally bought 3 items. There was so much more that I wanted to try I had to resist the urge of buying the whole stand. :D

The first thing I reached for was their blushes. I've heard so much about them and I really wanted to try them out myself. I picked up the shade Secret It-Girl. which is a pretty orange shade with a hint of glitter. This looked perfect for the summer so I thought I might as well get this whilst there is some summer left.

The next shade I got is Adorable . This is a more wearable everyday kind of shade. I reach quite often for these kind of blushes when in a rush because it's more subtle then brighter blushes so it's great for when you want to just smack on some blush without being so precise with it.

I didn't just wanted to get blushes so I thought I might try their lipsticks too. They had quite a good variety of colours. Sadly the colour that I liked was out of stock so I pick this one up in the shade On the Catwalk! I wasn't too sure about the colour but when I put it on, I just loved it. It's such a wearable red. It's the type of red that even if you apply it full on, it gives your lips a red cherry-kissed look rather than an 'in-yo-face' kind of red lip look.

The blushes were £2.50 and the lipstick was £2.30, with 3 for 2 I bought all three products for just a fiver. Now that's what I call a good deal!

What would you recommend I try from Essence next?
